The Mind - Open to Yourself

In high school, conversations begin to focus on “what do you want to be when you grow up?” For me, upon reading a magazine my mom found on the bus about different types of engineering, I knew I’d found my calling. I would be an architectural engineer! They are trained to bridge the gap between function (the world of engineering) and form (the world of architecture). I also learned about the importance of being a licensed Professional Engineer, P.E. and the arduous process to become one. Attain a four year degree from an accredited school. Take two eight hour exams, one open book, one closed. Four years of progressive experience working with a P.E. and a grueling application process to verify your experience and professional ethics. Not to mention the various amounts of continuing education credits depending on the state in which you are licensed. I laugh now thinking of myself creating my first real resume and stating “obtain experience to gain professional engineer licensure” as my career objective.
I naively thought that was the end game.
If we possess or create a growth mindset we can open the door to limitless possibilities. It can improve our relationships, job performance or whatever we set our minds to achieve. A growth mindset is one that seeks to be inspired, welcomes feedback, pursues mastery, is resilient, and embraces challenges. In short it focuses on effort. It is based on the belief that improvement is not only possible but attainable. In contrast, a fixed mindset is the breeding ground for rigidity and ego driven behavior such as: avoidance of challenges, obstacles, and feedback resulting in unhealthy competition and feelings of inferiority. It focuses on natural ability. Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck coined the terms in her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success in 2006 after conducting decades of research. Cultivating a growth mindset opens you up to your most powerful asset, belief in yourself.....
